Environment and Pollution

What is environment ? The environment refers to the air, water, and land in which people, animals and plants live. So human beings, animals, plants, air, water, and soil are the main elements of the environment. The natural forces such as storms, cyclones and earthquakes are also a part of this environment. Climate is thus a condition of the environment. All things that make up the environment are interrelated.

The world  is producing millions of tons of domestic rubbish and toxic industrial waste each year, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to find suitable locations to get rid of all the refuse. The disposal of various kings of waste is seriously pollution the environment. We know that air is an important element of our environment and our air is polluted by smoke. Man makes fires to cook food, make bricks, melt tar for road construction and to do may other things.

Forests play a vital role in the total scheme of the world. They not only provide the living space for most of the world’s wildlife but also help humans in various ways. Humans get most of their wood from forest trees. Many plants and trees provide them with vegetables fruits as well. But humans are destroying forest. Trees are being cut down for the wood itself and for wood-pulp which  is used in paper-making. Forests are being destroyed for road-building and to provide land for large herds of cattle to graze on. The effects of this mass destruction of forest could eventually affect us all. Dark forests absorb heat more effectively than lighter crops and grasses. The process of deforestation can altogether change the weather patterns of the world. Even more serious is the greenhouse effect.
